fascination with the 'dark' side

palpatine & anakin

to begin with, i am NOT a "star wars" fan, i have never followed the whole "jedi vs. sith" thing even though i have seen all of the past SW movies (i don't recall anything though). i even think that this whole franchise is a piece of turd... i'm not into sequels, much less prequels, and george lucas should stop daydreaming of "a galaxy far, far away" just to make more money.

but one thing that connects me to the forthcoming SW 3: Revenge of the Sith movie, is my very weird fascination with fictional villains. why do i always have this empathy for 'poor misguided souls' that turn into evil? to round off my favorite villains, there's lex luthor from "smallville" (he's bald and charming), the green goblin from "spider-man 1", severus snape (well he's not exactly a villain, just villefied as a bad person), lucius malfoy, and tom riddle/lord voldemort in "harry potter". i know i'm not the only one, but what's strange in these is i don't sympathize the hero, i side with them! do i have a sidetracked mind or what? now it's chancellor palpatine and anakin skywalker! i think in the past two prequels my sole favorite character was palpatine for reasons unknown, maybe because i'm a sucker for politics during the time, he's old and wise and whatever. it stuck. anakin was simply eye candy, that's all. little did i know that in this (hopefully) last installment of the star wars saga that it's the palpatine guy (judging from the trailer) who leads anakin to become the wheezy darth vader! (i'm wondering, is c.p. the one with the freaky makeup wearing a hood?) *gasp* my goodness! do i have "villainy" intuition? maybe the police should use me as a radar for sniffing out the bad guys!

on the other end, one movie i'm looking forward to is the tom cruise (shame on you for being with Ms. Smirky! = katie holmes) starrer The War of the Worlds. now, please don't tell me i'm in love with the aliens!
